Introduction:
The AVR-20 Voltage Regulator is an electronic device that allows the generator to produce a fixed output voltage. It has an open chassis, molded resin design and is intended to be mounted on the generator junction box.
The AVR-20 measures the voltage between one of the generator phases and the zero point and adjusts the DC voltage applied to the excitation winding until the desired voltage level is achieved. The output stage of the output device is a half-wave thyristor associated with a freewheeling diode. In principle, the device is compatible with all brushless generators. a stability adjustment pot is also provided for this purpose. The AVR-20 relay has a special electronic circuit design. the minimum residual voltage required for construction is 5 V-AC.
The unit does not include moving parts; so it can operate in highly vibrating environments. The AVR-20 includes a low frequency protection circuit. This feature reduces the output voltage during motor overload or shutdown. Therefore, the diesel engine is protected from excessive torque currents generated by high starting of large electrical equipment. Likewise, the diesel engine can be stopped under load without being damaged. The connection diagram of the unit allows for quick and easy replacement.

OPERATION:
The unit operates with 230 volts phase-to-neutral voltage. The output voltage, as well as the internal power supply, is taken directly from the voltage detection input. The unit requires 5 V-AC for start-up. The maximum output voltage of the half-wave thyristor is 115 volts. During operation, the unit continuously monitors the input voltage and increases/decreases the voltage excitation to keep the input voltage at a constant value.
The AVR-20 keeps the AC voltage change to a minimum in the event of a load change and helps you quickly reach the desired voltage value. The regulation is of the PI type, the proportional reaction part is fast and the slow action helps the reaction unit restore the exact set voltage. The stability of the potentiometer adjusts the reaction speed of the unit. This helps the unit to be consistent with a variety of generators.
The AVR-20 can produce up to 20 amps of direct current. The generator voltage can be adjusted through the built-in potentiometer. External voltage adjustment function is also provided, in this case the value must be 1 kilo-ohm external potentiometer. The low frequency protection circuit turns off the excitation voltage to prevent damage during engine stall under load. The factory set protection value is 45Hz.
